Ernie, For your information, Faruque's tee shirt, and I think some shoes as well, has been chucked in the garbage skip at Garry's workshop. No one from the NSWTDA has kept the tee shirt from Faruque, nor have they had it in their possession.

I went over to Garry's workshop myself to pick up the tee shirt, where it had been left. I intended to give it to you so that it might help you in negotiations with Faruque.

It was not there. Garry told me it had been left for some months and it had been eventually chucked away.

If Faruque does not believe Anne, then he could easily go over to Garry's workshop and ask him. Garry is an independent outsider and he has no reason to lie nor would he. So if Faruque has doubts he can get the facts straight from the horse's mouth and ascertain for himself the exact truth.

You can refer to this email and pass these facts on to Faruque if it will help you in your negotiations.

The Text of the Covenant of Umar I

This is what the slave of Allah, Umar b.Al-Khattab, the Amir of the believers, has offered the people of Illyaa’ of security granting them Amaan (protection) for their selves, their money, their churches, their children, their lowly and their innocent, and the remainder of their people. Their churches are not to be taken, nor are they to be destroyed, nor are they to be degraded or belittled, neither are their crosses or their money, and they are not to be forced to change their religion, nor is any one of them to be harmed. No Jews are to live with them in Illyaa’ and it is required of the people of Illyaa’ to pay the Jizya, like the people of the cities. It is also required of them to remove the Romans from the land; and whoever amongst the people of Illyaa’ that wishes to depart with their selves and their money with the Romans, leaving their business and crosses behind, then their selves, their trading goods and their children are secure until they reach their destination. Upon what is in this book is the word of Allah, the covenant of His Messenger, of the Khulafaa’ and of the believers if they (the people of Illyaa’) gave what was required of them of Jizya. Dear Sir

The NSW Cabbie Welfare Association has been formed to address the basic, natural needs of cab drivers and to have their voice heard in the Taxi industry. It is this association's intention to prioritise the safety, future security and overall welfare of cab drivers and it is for these reasons many cabbies have and are becoming members of this association.

As a taxi fare increase is due for the coming financial year from July 2001, the Minister for Transport (concerning taxi fare increase) and the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (Concerning Pay-ins increase) are going to make decisions on the matter of the amount of that taxi fare increase and pay-in increase respectively. Many citizens of this state need the use of a taxi service as part of their daily routine. They are all clearly subjected to the effect of a fare increase.

We ask you to consider all the consequences before making any decision so as to ensure the proposed increase would not adversely affect the poorer sections of this state's society, such as the sick, partially infirmed, pensioners etc. all of whom are strongly dependent on and require a taxi service that is financially within their reach to do short trips, visits etc.

The matter of a taxi fare increase is of great community concern. It should be a matter for consultation well before any proposed taxi meter increase with all affected parties and stake holders being given the opportunity to have their voices and views considered to ensure that the increase is a fair and genuine increase.

We believe it is necessary for us to provide input into the current negotiations in relation to the aforementioned taxi meter increase and pay-in increase at the NSW Industrial Relations Commission.

In relation to you and your department considering our association as a party to these matters could you kindly extend to us an invitation so that we could express our viewpoint, thereby ensuring the best interests of the wider community are properly served.
